Genesis and her Surgery- All went well!

Friday, October 6th, 2006

Dr. Sanchez at the Austin Pediatric Surgery was awesome. She is a real professional.

Genesis was wonderful. I was afraid that she would loose it at the Hospital when she would get separated from me but she did great. When Dan and I were waiting for the nurses to take her to the OR, she got in a little toddler car and wanted us to push her all over the pre/post surgery area. When the nurses came for her I asked if she would be allowed to be pushed in the car into the OR which they agreed. She went so easily.

After the surgery I was called in the Recovery room and she was somewhat unhappy but nothing like I would have imagined. She was calmed by her pacifier and seeing me made all the difference. By the time I was allowed to take her into the pre/post surgery area where Dan was, she seemed like nothing ever happened.

She was GREAT!

Thank you Genesis for taking it easy on Mommy and Daddy. God knows, we would not have taken it so well otherwise.

I love you Baby!

Genesis Surgery Tomorrow

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Today I am getting ready for Genesis Surgery Tomorrow. She will be going to the Children’s Hospital in Downtown Austin. I have never been there before. I am sure it’s a nice hospital.

I spoke with the Post op nurse yesterday and asked a lot of questions. I was told I could not go in with her into surgery even though I have been in the Medical Field for years. I was also told that she was going to taken from us awake into the surgery room. That is what worries me. Genesis is not very good with strangers and gets very anxious around people or places she does not know.

The nurse assured me that she will not be awake for long and that the whole process will be less then one hour. With her recovery time we should be out within 4 hours total which is not bad. I am trusting that all goes well.

These are the times that a parent feels useless. This is the first time I experience this and I am sure it won’t be the last. My children are small and things like their first day of school or their first weekend camp will bring this feeling back. I am sure of that.

But for now, things at hand. I am getting ready for tomorrow.

How To Get More Out Of Your Day

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

This is a quick and easy way to stay on top of all the duties in the home. I use this guideline when I have many things that need to get done. Check them out:

  1. Organize your Day
  2. Prioritize
  3. Schedule things, example- Laundry at 10 am., Kids bath 9 am, Cook and feed children 11.30 am and so on
  4. Re-assess- Things may have changed and they may need to be re-evaluated- Do this in the middle of the day
  5. Check list- At the end of the day check list to see if anything else is still pending.
  6. Start planning the next day and the rest of the week- This will give you a head start on your week

This helps me a lot when I have a long day a head of me.

Genesis At The Pediatric Surgery Doctors’ Office

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Today Genesis saw the Pediatric Surgeon (Dr. Sanchez with Austin Pediatric Surgeon in Round Rock). She said that she has an infection underneath her skin which needs to be taken out. Her surgery will be 10/6/06. I am a little nervous, not because of what she has but because she is going “under”.

She is so small, only 16 months old. At times she acts like a big girl but she is just a baby. My husband will be taking the day off from work to go with me to the Children’s Hospital in down town Austin.

I will be getting instructions from the Hospital sometime next week for preop prep.

The thing that concerns me is that Genesis does not like to be with strangers. She gets very anxious. I also know that they are not going to let me be in the surgery room with her. She is going to be afraid of being all alone with people she does not know.

For now, we just wait and see!

Walking In The Mornings! Up to 30 minutes

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Today my husband and I got up at 7 a.m. to walk this morning. We walked for about 30 minutes. We were walking kind of fast. I am not sure what the distance was but it made me sweat. I can wait till we are able to walk for 1 hour and feel comfortable with that.

After that is when him and I are going to try to get into running.

One step at a time!

My Cholesterol is Down!

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

A while back my Doctor had said that my cholesterol was high. She prescribed Zocor to lower it and of course diet and exercise. I am happy to say that my last cholesterol check came back and it is now lower then before.

It actually has gone down significantly. I have such good Doctors.

The kids Pediatrician and my Doctor are husband and wife and own the ABC Medical Center here in Round Rock and they are awesome! They really do care about their patients.

I love them!

When is Home Security a Must?

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

I think that home security is always a good idea but it is a must when you have children. To me, my children are very precious. “Things” that may be stolen from my house is not as important as something happening to my children.

If you are thinking about home security visit www.homesecurityinformation.com.

This is a good place to start!

The Dieting War!

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

I hear about my cousin today and she was telling me that she has lost a lot of weight. Since her 4 boys she gain a lot. Just like myself, she had her kids one after another and did not get a chance to loose the weight in between and just added on it. She tells me that she is on an Atkins diet plan and that its helping her a lot.

I was 110 lbs when I got married 7 years ago and now after 3 kids I weight 70 lbs more. You do the math. I have tried everything but it seems very hard. My Doctor found high cholesterol and now I have that to worry about also on top of my weight.

I sometimes wish there was a quick fix but I realize that a quick fix is not going to last. I want something permanent. My cousin tells me I should check the Atkins diet and try it. They have Healthy Recipes and other Resources to help you out.

But with that said I also found an interesting article about Dieting that makes me think twice about quick fixes. I am not saying that Atkins is a quick fix but rather the things I’ve done in the past; For example fasting.

I hope that my cousin keeps her weight off and I will continue to eat right and exercise even if it takes me longer. I will also do more research on the Atkins diet and see what other people have to say.

Genesis’s X-Rays Are Negative

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Ok, so her X-Rays are negative but now her Pediatrician wants her to see a Surgeon. He is still saying that he does not think is anything serious and I trust him. I am going to see a Doctor here in Round Rock on 9/28/06 and he will exam her and hopefully will tell me what that bump on her chest is.

I am still trusting that is nothing serious.

I thank God that all my kids have been healthy all this time and will be healthy kids in the future.

The X-Rays are negative and that’s a good sign.

Genesis At The Doctors Again For Her Chest Bump

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Now a days I seem to be spending a lot of time at the Pediatricians office. The bump that Genesis had on her chest is looking really weird. At first I thought it was hurting her but now it does not seem that way. The problem now is that it looks read and maybe a bit bigger then before.

I took her to see her Doctor once again and he now ordered an X-Ray. Tomorrow I get the result.

I am trusting that is nothing serious.
