Garden Magazine

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

My husband got a Seed and Plant Magazine in the mail. I took some time to go through it and it is awesome! The name of the company is Burgess- seed and plant co. They have all you can think off. My favorite section is the fruit section.

Here is a list of plants/trees they have:

blueberries, 3-in-1 dwarf citrus tree, 5-in-1 dwarf pear tree, 5-in-1 dwarf apple tree, apricot, asparagus, raspberries, lime, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, orange, strawberries, grape, kiwi, paw paw trees, fig, peaches, cherry, plums, nectarine, nuts, carrots, tomatoes, spanish peanuts, potatoes, bell peppers, red beet, corn, watermelon, bush beans, cucumbers, melon, squash, pumpkin, cabbage, eggplant, lettuce, turnip, hot peppers, spinach, radishes, okra, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, garlic, and onions

From all the above they have variations of types, colors, sizes and they look incredible.

I was so much in love with what they offer that I told my husband that when I start my vegetable garden I want the products from them. My husband offered to set me up with a green house type on one of the sides of the house (back yard).

I look forward to starting this project. There is more information at www.eBurgess.com.

Potty Training!

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Okay, so Mikey is now 3 years old. In about a month or so I will start potty training him. Hopefully by then Genesis will be ready also and I will be able to kill two birds with one stone. Needless to say this is not something I am looking forward to. I have asked my brother and sister for tips and searched on the net and some how I don’t think its as easy as everyone says it is.

I did try to potty train Mikey last summer and it was awful. But in all reality, maybe being pregnant in last years Texas heat was not the best time to do it anyway. After a couple of days I stopped and told myself I would try again this spring. So here we are, getting mentally ready for this adventure.

If everything goes well, and eventually I know it will- you will see posts about my experience.

Also, if anyone out there has good tips/advice please share!

WIC: Women, Infants and Children

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Many Stay At Home Moms like myself live on a strict budget. For me, taking advantage of all benefits available to me is very important. One of which is the WIC program that many Moms know very well. Check this out!

WIC’s mission is to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant or nursing women, infants, & children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.

WIC serves 45 percent of all infants born in the United States.

WIC is not an entitlement program as Congress does not set aside funds to allow every eligible individual to participate in the program. WIC is a Federal grant program for which Congress authorizes a specific amount of funds each year for the program. WIC is

  • administered at the Federal level by FNS
  • administered by 90 WIC state agencies, through approximately 46,000 authorized retailers.
  • WIC operates through 2,000 local agencies in 10,000 clinic sites, in 50 State health departments, 34 Indian Tribal Organizations, the District of Columbia, and five territories (Northern Mariana, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands).

There are Income Guidelines that need to be meet in order to qualify. If you qualify click here

Good luck!

Save Money On Gas For Your Vehicles: Walmart Prepaid Gift Card

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Did you know that you can get 3 cents off per gallon by using a Walmart gift card at the Walmart gas pump? It does not cost you anything to purchase a gift card but when you use it to buy gas, it saves you money!

Also keep this in mind: in Round Rock gas is $2.17 at the Walmart here. Gas at the Walmart in Rockdale is $2.09. My husband and I take the kids for drives often and if one of our cars needs gas we just drive to Rockdale and use the prepaid gift card and our gas costs us $2.06.

Sometimes keeping an eye out for gas prices also pays. You may see that the gas by the Doctors office is cheaper then the gas at the mall. In that case take the car that needs gas when you go to the Doctors office and fill up.

Small things will make a difference trust me.

In this case by me going to Rockdale and taking our car that needs to be filled up instead of putting gas in Round Rock with the prepaid gift card we save Good Money. Check this out! To start off just by keeping an eye out for cheaper gas I am now saving 8 cents. By using a prepaid gift card I save an additional 3 cents for a total of 11 cents. If my car has a tank of 15 gallons and I fill up twice a week that is savings of $3.30. Monthly saving of $14.85. Yearly Savings of $178.20. And if you have 2 cars that is a savings of $356.40.
